There is a good news for the young and talented athletes in Assam. Pijush Hazarika, a minister in the Assam cabinet, announced that the government is planning on providing a better platform for these athletes. This thinking is done for helping the athletes grow and gain recognition for their skills.
Piyush Hazarika shared this information at the opening ceremony of Khel Maharan 2023, which took place in Lakhimpur. During the event, he spoke to the media and explained the government’s plan in a detailed manner. The plan is to create a system that recognizes and supports talented athletes across the state.
The plan includes setting up an organized way for these talented athletes to showcase their talents. Starting at the local constituency level, teams will be formed, and these teams will be given an opportunity to compete at higher levels. The journey for these teams begins at the district level, followed by the state level. At the state level, the best athletes will be chosen to form a front-line team.
These selected athletes will be given proper training to show their talents. The training is not just for the sake of it; these athletes will have the chance to participate in some national and international tournaments as well. This includes big events like the National Games, the Asian Games, and even the Olympics. Hazarika also said that this initiative is taken because Assam was previously lacking a solid platform for sports and the young talents were ignored
Piyush Hazarika also mentioned that this effort is happening under the guidance of the Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sharma. It’s a significant step towards improving sports infrastructure and opportunities in the state.
At the event in Lakhimpur, along with Pijush Hazarika, other notable figures were present. This included MP Pradan Barua and Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka. The event was held at the Lakhimpur Government High Secondary School. This gathering and announcement was a massive turning point for aspiring athletes in Assam, aiming to bring out the best in them and provide them with the opportunities they deserve to let them fly high.
